Trekking
This is a paragraph with little content.

This is another small paragraph.

  • Trip introduction

The Kanamo Peak trek route provides you with fascinating views of the majestic Himalayas. Adding to the beauty of the views, is camping by the Chandratal lake - a high-altitude glacial lake in a magical setting. On this trek, you make your way through Spiti Valley, passing by monasteries and ambling through high hamlets.

This is a moderately challenging trek and though non-technical, the climb does necessitate some stamina and effort.

    Destination

Mt. Kanamo stands at a towering 19685 feet above sea level. Being located above Kibber and Ki gompa, it is the holiest mountain in Spiti. Ka means white or positive and Namo means hostess or a lady, so Kanamo means the mountain with a good omen or simply a white hostess. The views of the beautiful far-off ranges towards Kullu, Kinnaur and Ladakh make the climb to the top even sweeter!

    Destination highlights

    • Trek through some gorgeous high-altitude terrain
    • Camp beside the mirror-like Chandratal lake
    • Enjoy fantastic views at the summit of Mt. Kanamo

  • Day 1: Manali - Batal

Participants meet at Manali and set out on the drive to Batal. This is an interesting drive which crosses over from the lush green valleys of Kullu and Manali into the stark dune-like landscape of Lahaul and Spiti valley via the famous Rohtang pass. You spend some time at the pass and then start descending into the Lahaul valley. Set up camp on reaching Batal and head out on an acclimatisation hike.

    Overnight in tents.

    Day 2: Batal - Chandratal

After breakfast, you begin the first day of trekking, crossing the Chandra river and moving up from Batal. It is a reasonably long walk all the way up to Chandratal. You get some spectacular views of the Bara Shigri glacier and some high Himalayan peaks en route.

Chandratal is a jewel in the mountains and the minute you set your eyes on it the exhaustion of the day’s hike will vanish. The lake also called Moon Lake gets its name from its half-moon shape and is surrounded by high mountains. This is also a popular camping spot for shepherds.

The hike starts immediately above Kibber village and is steep in the first phase which will last for a couple of hours after which the trail eases out. You also cross a small lake which supplies water to Kaza town. From the base camp you can see your destination for the next day, the summit of Kanamo peak.

The trail is not too difficult; you cross 2 shoulders in the mountain and then climb up scree slopes towards the ridge leading to the summit (you may get to see some snow depending on the season). The climb is rewarded with astounding 360° views from the summit - Parang La pass leading to Ladakh, Pin Parvati pass leading to Kullu valley, ranges of Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti and the underlying valleys.
