Trekking
This is a paragraph with little content.

This is another small paragraph.

  • Trip introduction

This moderately challenging trek to the thrilling (and chilling!) Roopkund Lake offers you a rare chance to see the human skeletons that surround it. The trek requires a bit of muscle and stamina to get accustomed to the changing altitude and terrain and is ideal for fit trekkers. You’ll be walking over verdant green meadows, climbing to more barren heights as you get closer to giant Himalayan peaks, and there’s usually a good chance of snow at the lake itself.

    Destination

The trek to Roopkund takes you through the more remote parts of the Garhwal region, ensuring that you're deeply embedded in nature, with very few disturbances from the civilized world.

Trekkers will experience the best of both lush mountain forests, as well as more barren landscapes as they climb higher. The trek becomes a little more challenging in the last leg near Bhagubasa, which is an exciting section.

The team will also pass through the charming village of Wan, which is an idyllic spot that is perfect on the return journey.

    Destination highlights

    • Explore the mysterious skeletal remains at Roopkund Lake
    • Take selfies with Himalayan giant peaks like Trishul and Nanda Ghunti
    • Trek through rarely seen high altitide meadows
    • Visit the charming mountain village of Wan

  • Day 1: Kathgodam-Lohajung

The group meets at Kathgodam railway station at 7:00 a.m. to catch the vehicle up to Lohajung. This is a long drive (8-9 hrs), but it takes you through the beautiful Kumaon mountains via Almora and Kausani, so you will barely feel it. On arrival at Lohajung, the group checks into a guest house or spends the night in tents.
/Roopkund Trekking Adventure Snow Trek Uttarakhand Himalayas Trek through the beautiful mixed forests of Didana.

    Day 2: Lohajung-Didana

As this is the first day, the trekking section is mostly a gradual walk towards Didana village. You'll pass through enchanting mixed forests abundant in bird life, you'll cross a few crystal clear streams, and you'll walk through local villages to appreciate a lifestyle typical of the terrain. This is the most pleasant way to get used to the exercise and the altitude. The campsite for the night is located above Didana village, and offers a full view of the trail for tomorrow, leading to the famous Ali & Bedni bugyals (meadows). Overnight in tents.
/Roopkund Trekking Adventure Snow Trek Uttarakhand Himalayas As you climb higher, mist starts to cover your surroundings.

    Day 3: Didana-Bedni Bugyal

Today's trek takes you steadily upwards through a thick oak forest, which opens up into Ali Bugyal. This alpine meadow offers unending vistas of the ranges around, and if you're lucky with clear skies, even a view of the impressive Trishul peak. After this, the trek becomes a more moderate slope to Bedni Bugyal, where you have a gorgeous campsite with vast open views and pastures all around. Overnight in tents.
/Roopkund Trekking Adventure Snow Trek Uttarakhand Himalayas The terrain around you starts to look more bare now, with a chance of snow.

    Day 4: Bedni Bugyal-Bhagubasa

The trek for today will take you into higher altitudes than before. The terrain starts to look more rocky and bare, with smaller shrubs replacing the oak forests and meadows of the previous days. There is a good chance of snow in this stretch, depending on the season. It's a challenging stretch as you might start to feel the thinner air, but it's also one of the most interesting sections of the trail. Overnight in tents.
/Roopkund Trekking Adventure Snow Trek Uttarakhand Himalayas Today you'll visit the mystical lake and see the remains.

    Day 5: Bhagubasa-Roopkund and Jurangali-Patal Nauchaniya

Today will be your best day on the trek! It's full of adventure, and ends with a feeling of victory. The day begins early to ensure that the group makes it to the lake in under 3 hours. You will climb through moraine, rock gardens and snow patches to reach the periphery of the mystery lake. This trail is steep at sections and there are possibilities of it being under snow for about 9-10 months. Your stamina is sure to be tested. On tricky sections, if required our guides will help you negotiate the trail. If there is not too much of snow around the lake you will get to see human bones and skeletons. You will spend some time here and also have the option of climbing up a short distance towards the ridge of Jurangali (20 mins). You spend some time here taking pictures and then retrace your steps to Patal Nauchaniya. This is a long walk down and we will take plenty of breaks in between. Overnight in tents.
/Roopkund Trekking Adventure Snow Trek Uttarakhand Himalayas Today you'll leave behind these stark landscapes as you descend to the lush lower reaches.

    Day 6: Patal Nauchaniya-Lohajung

Today the trek begins to descend back into the beautiful meadows and oak or pine forests. En route, the team encounters the village of Wan, which makes everyone fall in love with it. The trekking ends at the village temple, where the trekkers spend some time resting and feeling grateful for a successful trip. Shortly after this, the group boards the waiting vehicles and drives down to Lohajung. Overnight in tents/ lodge.

    Day 7: Lohajung-Kathgodam

After breakfast, the group begins the drive back down to Kathgodam, arriving at around 4 p.m. The trip ends here.
