  • Trip introduction

    This is a great trek for people with experience as well as for beginners looking to stretch themselves. One day will be slightly difficult as it involves crossing the pass, which involves some amount of exertion. On this trek you move from one state (Uttarakhand) to the other (Himachal), so you can expect lots of variety in terms of landscape, nature and culture. The highlight of this trek is scaling the Rupin Pass, a beautiful high altitude Himalayan pass. Usually, this is a not a very difficult pass to negotiate but at times, depending upon the snow conditions it can pose quite a challenge. You will stay at beautiful campsites and enjoy some peaceful exploring on rest days.

    Destination

    This trek moves from the state of Uttarakhand into the state of Himachal Pradesh. Along the way, you will meet and interact with locals and see cultural landmarks and temples. The landscape on both sides of the pass is spectacular and studded with waterfalls, lush green meadows, snow-capped mountains, quaint villages and big rivers.

    Rules on the trip

    The operator has a set of guidelines that all participants must adhere to based on the tenets of ‘Leave No Trace’ and ‘Tread Light’ policies. These guidelines are very simple and prioritise travelling in small groups, better planning, understanding impact of camping, proper waste disposal, respecting local cultures, sensitivity towards wildlife and so on.

    Cancellation policy

    If you cancel 45 days before departure: Full refund (after deducting any expenses that have been incurred for hotel bookings, transport, etc.)

    If you cancel 30-45 days before departure: 75% of trip cost will be refunded (after deducting any expenses that have been incurred for hotel bookings, transport, etc.)

    If you cancel 15-30 days before departure: 50% of trip cost will be refunded (after deducting any expenses that have been incurred for hotel bookings, transport, etc.)

    If you cancel 15 days or less before departure: No refund

    The operator takes utmost care to ensure safety of its clients. However in the case of any unforeseen mishaps, the operator will not be liable for any injuries caused or for loss of life.

    All participants would be required to sign an indemnity form before the start of the program, without which they will not be allowed to take part in the trip/program/activities.

    If due to bad weather, sickness, any natural calamity or any other personal reason the itinerary is changed, the extra charges arising due to it will be borne by the guests.

  • Day 1: Dehradun - Mori - Dhaula

    Drive from Dehradun station past pine forests, along the Tons river, to Dhaula. Along the way, you visit Mori village and the ancient Pokhu Devta temple.

    Day 2: Dhaula - Sewa

    Trek through beautiful rhododendron forests and fields to Sewa.

    Day 3: Sewa - Jakha

    An interesting trek through villages, to see the local culture and the way of life of people living here. You pass through mixed forests and if you're lucky, get your first views of the snow-capped ridges of the Dhauladhar range. The village at Jakha is the last village on the trail and also the highest in the area.

    Day 4: Jakha - Suruwas Thach

    The destination for the day is the beautiful meadows at Suruwas Thach. You will initially walk along the river before climbing through a forest section to reach the entrance of the Rupin Valley, and get your first view of the Rupin waterfall from here. The meadows at Suruwas Thach are very refreshing and ideal for camping.

    Day 5: Suruwas Thach - Waterfall Camp

    The initial climb today will take you to a picturesque meadow where you can spend some time taking pictures and resting for a while. From here, it’s a steep walk through rock cliffs and possible snow patches until you reach the upper waterfall campsite, surely one of the finest meadows in this part of the world.

    Day 6: Rest day at Waterfall Camp

    You've earned your rest after those days of walking! Take it easy, relax in the beautiful environs of the Waterfall Camp, while you recharge for tomorrow. If you feel like it, there are some nearby spots you can explore.

    Day 7: Waterfall Camp - Rupin Pass - Ronti Gad

    Today is a challenging trek that requires you to climb up snowfields and one rocky gully to the pass. Depending upon conditions, you might need to rope up a few patches. The climb to the pass will take about 4-6 hours depending upon the snow conditions. From the pass, you are rewarded with a magnificent panorama of the Himalayas. You can spot the peaks of Kinner Kailash range and the ones close to Charang La. After a short rest, it's time to descend. The descent takes a couple of hours and leads you to the pastures at Ronti Gad in the Kinnaur meadows.

    Day 8: Ronti Gad - Sangla

    This is a rather steep descent to Sangla, but you'll be rewarded by beautiful panoramas along the way. Admire the villages of the Sangla valley spread below you, and end your trek with a look at the Baspa river.
