Trekking
This is a paragraph with little content.

This is another small paragraph.

  • Trip introduction

The Rupin Pass trek extends from Dhaula in Uttarakhand to Sangla in Himachal Pradesh. You'll walk through forests that are fragrant with the pine needles crushed under your feet, and into the higher reaches where patches of snow cover the rocky ground. You'll pass tinkling streams that are replaced by frozen waterfalls as you go higher.

The Rupin Pass trek is rated as a moderately difficult trek, mostly due to the length of the trek, and the altitude of almost 16,000 feet. You're likely to get some snow in May and June, and then again in October onwards.

    Destination

If you’re an adventure junkie, the Rupin Pass Trek is meant for you. You'll be trekking through wide vistas of mountain landscape, through dense forests, along steep and narrow trails along the edges of slopes, over snow bridges, and under frozen waterfalls. You'll even visit Jhaka, a village that hangs on the edge of a cliff! During the Rupin Pass trek, there are a couple of sections that involve some steep climbs, especially on Day 6 and 7, when you ascend at least 1500-2000 feet in a day's trek. In addition to this, you'll also have a day where you get to use ice-axes!

  • Day 1 of Rupin Pass trek: Dehradun to Dhaula

You'll be picked up at 06:00 hrs in the morning, at Dehradun Railway Station. It's a long drive of about 10 hours, but you'll be passing scenic spots like Mussoorie as well as charming, small villages en route. You'll reach Dhaula by late evening, where a hot meal awaits you. Overnight in tents.

Day 2 of Rupin Pass trek: Dhaula to Sewa

Today you'll start your trekking. You'll begin your trek from Dhaula village, climbing up a steep incline for 20 minutes, so that you reach a flatter trail. After that, it's a gentle climb. You'll walk through apricot and apple trees, upto the Rupin river bed. Your campsite is set up close to the river, at a beach-like location, where you can dip your feet in the cold water. Overnight in tents.

Day 3 of Rupin Pass trek: Sewa to Jhaka

Today you'll meet your first obstacles on the Rupin Pass trek. You'll cross a wooden bridge, walk along a narrow trail close to the edge of a mountain, and up through a snaking path through a forest, to your campsite in Jhaka. Overnight in tents.

Day 4 of Rupin Pass trek: Jhaka to Saurwas Thatch

You'll wake up to spectacular views, because Jhaka is a village that hangs on the edge of a mountain slope. You'll start trekking through dense fir forests, and up into snowy patches and finally, you'll get to Saruwas Thach. This is one of the most beautiful camping locations on the Rupin Pass route. It offers you views of the valley, as well as a gorgeous waterfall. Overnight here.

Day 5 of Rupin Pass trek: Saruwas Thatch to Dhanderas Thatch

You'll trek along the Rupin waterfall today, climbing up through a forest, up to a path that runs along the edge of a valley. From up here, you'll see beautiful views of the meadows below, dotted with yellow marigolds, boulders, and green grass. You'll walk through this beauty, and up into Dhanderas Thach. This is one of the biggest and most beautiful meadows on the Rupin Pass trek, and you'll be camping here for the night. Overnight in tents.

Day 6 of Rupin Pass trek: Dhanderas Thatch to Upper Waterfall camp

It's going to be a day of wild adventure on the Rupin Pass trail! You'll trek slowly, giving your body time to acclimatize, as you'll be climbing from 11,150 feet to 13,120 feet. It's only 3 hours of trekking, but you'll be learning snow-trek techniques like sidestepping, kicking and plunging, and how to slide on snow harmlessly. You'll also have to use your ice-axe to cut through snow patches. A final steep climb will let you reach your destination, Waterfall camp. Overnight in tents.

Day 7 of Rupin Pass trek: Upper waterfall to Rupin Pass to Ronti Gad

It's a long day today, but you'll be conquering Rupin Pass! You'll do a few steep sections before you come out at Rati Pheri, a location where you get stunning views of the Rupin Valley. You'll trek for about 1.5 kms through the snow to get to Rupin Pass Gully, and then climb up to Rupin Pass. When you get to the top, you'll feel the rush of adrenaline and victory, especially after the last bit which can be very tricky. After that, you'll descend to Ronti Gad, enjoying a little bit of sliding in the snow. Overnight in tents.

Day 8 of Rupin Pass trek: Ronti Gad to Sangla via Sangla Kanda

While today's trek is all downhill, the descent can get tiring. You'll proceed slowly and steadily, passing into the warmer green meadows and leaving the snow behind. You’ll get to see the snowy peaks of Mt. Kinner Kailash, the lake and meadows of Sangla Kandla, and walk through pretty pine forests for the last time on your Rupin Pass trek. Finally you'll emerge at Baspa village, which leads to the motorable roads of Sangla. Your vehicles will be waiting to drive you to Shimla. The drive takes about 8 hours, and will be mostly during the night. Trip ends in Shimla.
