    Immerse yourself in the beauty of Kashmir on this 8-day trek to the Great Lakes of Kashmir. The spectacular Himalayan lakes of Gadsar, Vishansar, Kishansar and Gangabal lie scattered across alpine meadows, surrounded by mighty snow-clad peaks, waiting to be explored.

    Far away from motorable roads, this off-the-beaten-track adventure offers you the opportunity to explore the hidden valleys, grasslands and steep rocky stretches of Kashmir. It is a moderately easy trek to the Great Lakes of Kashmir, considered to be a beginner’s delight, and is also the best way to witness the rugged majesty of this region.

    Destination

    Located at an altitude of 11,500 feet and above, the Great Lakes of Kashmir are stunning, to say the least. Surrounded by the lofty Himalayas, these lakes often reflect the mountains and the sky in them. The route also offers panoramic views of the valleys and the various snow-clad peaks.

    Climbing through forests of maple and pine, making your way across quick flowing Himalayan streams, rocky terrain and lush green meadows, the journey is as exciting the destinations.

    This high altitude trek to the Great Lakes of Kashmir is best undertaken during the monsoon months, from June till September. During this time, the trails are cleared of snow, the flowers are in full bloom, and the skies are bright as you make your way towards each of the lakes.

    Rules on the trip

    Participants must adhere to the instructions of the team leader during the Great Lakes of Kashmir trek.

    Smoking, consumption of alcohol, narcotic drugs etc. is strictly prohibited on the Great Lakes of Kashmir trek.

    Cancellation policy

    For cancellations made 24 days or more before departure for the trek to the Great Lakes of Kashmir: 95% of trek cost will be refunded.

    For cancellations made between 14-24 days before departure for the trek to the Great Lakes of Kashmir: 70% of trek/tour cost will be refunded.

    For cancellations made between 8-14 days before departure for the trek to the Great Lakes of Kashmir: 50% of trek/tour cost will be refunded.

    For cancellations made less than 7 days before departure for the trek to the Great Lakes of Kashmir: No refund.

    No show: No refund.

    All refund amounts will be processed after deducting any transaction charges.

    Additional instructions, booking policies, terms and conditions

    The operator reserves the right to change the Great Lakes of Kashmir trek itinerary depending upon the weather conditions and other factors. If extra cost is incurred due to rescheduling, it will be borne by the trekker.

    Please note that sometimes an unforeseen event may force changes in the itinerary of the Great Lakes of Kashmir trek. In such cases, your trek leader will suggest the best alternative similar to your original itinerary.

    All the arrangements for the Great Lakes of Kashmir trek are pre-planned and prepaid. In case of non completion of the Great Lakes of Kashmir trek due to any reason whatsoever there will not be any refund for any unutilized services. Any extra expense due any alteration has to be paid extra.

  • Day 1 of Great Lakes of Kashmir trek: Drive from Srinagar to Sonamarg

    You will be picked up from Srinagar and driven to Sonamarg. It's a scenic drive of about 90 kms and will take about 2 hours. By early evening, you'll be in Sonamarg, and will settle down at the campsite, a little away from the town. Dinner and overnight at campsite.

    Day 2 of Great Lakes of Kashmir trek: Trek from Sonamarg to Nichnai

    After breakfast, the fun begins! You set off on your trek to the Great Lakes of Kashmir today. Your trek route winds along the Sindhu river, winding through forests of maple and pine to reach Nichnai, at an elevation of 11,500 feet. When you look back from this height, you'll be able to see panoramic views of the Sonamarg valley greets you. At Nichnai, your campsite is set up and you can relax here for the rest of the evening. Dinner and overnight at camp.

    Day 3 of Great Lakes of Kashmir trek: Trek from Nichnai to Vishansar Lake

    Today you'll trek to Vishansar Lake, located at an altitude of 12,500 feet. The views start to become more majestic now, with towering peaks and rolling landscapes. You'll be walking through high altitude meadows as you go higher to Nichnai Pass. From here, you'll get breathtaking views of the snow-clad mountains. You'll descend a short way from here to get to Vishansar Lake, where you'll spend some time taking in the views. You'll be camping a short distance away from here, and will love the peace and beauty of this spot. Dinner and overnight at camp.

    Day 4 of Great Lakes of Kashmir trek: Explore Vishansar Lake

    Today you'll be staying at the same campsite, but will have the day free to explore Vishansar lake. You'll also walk to its twin, Kishansar Lake, a little distance away. Both lakes are deep blue and cold, and reflect the sky above and the mountains around. After a day of fun in the outdoors, you'll retire to your tents for the night.

    Day 5 of Great Lakes of Kashmir trek: Trek from Vishansar Lake to Gadsar

    You'll eat breakfast today and set off towards Gadsar Lake. You'll climb for about 2-3 hours to Gadsar Pass at an elevation of 13,800 feet, and then descend for about 2 hours to the lake. Gadsar Lake is serene and untouched, but the highlight of the day is the views from the pass. You'll be able to see the twin lakes of Kishansar and Vishansar, and is one of the most serene and picturesque of the Great Lakes. You'll stay the night in tents, near Gadsar lake.

    Day 6 of Great Lakes of Kashmir trek: Trek from Gadsar to Satsar

    Today you trek onwards from Gadsar to Satsar, which is a collection of 7 smaller lakes, at an altitude of 12, 500 feet. It's a 6 hour climb, and you'll cross a river with icy cold water. You can stop for a while here to splash your face or even take off your shoes and socks to dip your toes in it. At the end of a scenic hike today, you'll stop at a campsite near Satsar. Overnight in tents.

    Day 7 of Great Lakes of Kashmir trek: Trek from Satsar to Gangabal

    Today's trek is only about 6 hours long, but it'll take you over some very rocky terrain. There are huge boulders along the route, and you'll need to do some serious scrambling. The twin lakes of Gangabal are located at an elevation of 12,500 feet, with great views all around. At Gangabal, your campsite is set up close to the lake, and you'll spend the evening relaxing here after a hard day's climb. Dinner and overnight in tents.

    Day 8 of the Great Lakes of Kashmir trek: Trek from Gangabal to Naranag

    It's the last day of your trek, and you'll wake up to a hearty breakfast. You'll have to trek for about 6 hours towards Naranag, through pine forests and lush meadows. The trail winds along a stream, so it's very beautiful. You'll stop for lunch en route, and continue onwards to Naranag. By late afternoon, you'll get to Naranag, where vehicles are waiting for you. You'll be driven back to Srinagar, along a scenic route that takes an hour. Your Kashmir Great Lakes trek ends in Srinagar.
