The Kedarkantha Expedition (14-17 years)

This is a perfect 10 day trip in the Himalayan wilderness, offering kids a opportunity to undertake challenges like high altitude trekking and white water rafting under expert supervision.

Participants learn the basics of trekking and mountaineering and are included in planning and decision-making and have to share roles in rotation. Roles may vary from camp set up, pack up (leave no trace), cooking, washing, collecting firewood or sourcing drinking water, and all tasks are managed by the group.

This is a moderately challenging trip which also offers an opportunity to learn various life skills and adventure techniques.
The trip also give participants a chance to do the exciting sport of river rafting.

Destination

This beautiful campsite is located on the banks of the Tons river in the Har ki Dun valley and contains a myriad of flora and fauna. The trip takes participants through the Himalayan valley and offers them an opportunity to camp out in the wild, learn new skills, and make new friends.

Every child will take back priceless memories of the magnificent views, as well as an increased sense of confidence and responsibility.

Participant arrive in Dehradun by 05:40 am and proceed onwards by road to the beautiful Inme Tons campsite, reaching just in time for lunch. After settling in, the children learn how to sent up their tents, and can unpack and rest. In the evening, they learn about the basics of trekking and mountaineering in a fun session.

This morning, all campers will undertake a short but strenuous trek to get accustomed to the forthcoming activities They also enjoy the thrilling sport of white water rafting in the afternoon. In the evening, they plan for the expedition, ration for the meals, divide the load to carry and pack their rucksacks.

Today, the group takes a 1 hour bus journey to reach Sankri, the start point of the expedition. The trekking trail winds through rocky terrain and beautiful meadows, giving children a taste of the days to come. Participants camp in the wilderness at Juda ka Talab (10,000 ft.).

Day 4 Milestone

Today, the children continue trekking towards the Kedarkantha base camp (12000 ft.). The route is fun, offers great views of snow-capped peaks and, most exciting of all, a view of the Kedarkantha peak that they will be climbing soon. In the evening, the kids set up camp, participate in fun activities, and enjoy a delicious dinner before heading to bed early.

Day 5 Milestone

Today is the most exciting day of all! The children wake up early and eat a hearty breakfast before setting off for the peak of Kedarkantha (12500 ft.). It is a huge thrill to reach the top, and a reason for celebration at the top. The tired but exhilarated trekkers begin their descent after a while, making it to the base in time for lunch by 11:00 am. Participants then trek down and camp out at Juda ka Talab.

Day 6 Milestone

Participants depart and head back Sankri, getting to the Inme camp by bus, in time for lunch. The afternoon is for resting, and in the evening, a special dinner is made to celebrate the success of the expedition.

  • Jewelry or expensive accessories are not recommended. For expensive or delicate clothes, please use discretion.
  • Mobile phones are not allowed on the camp and will be confiscated if carried.
  • Using MP3 players (although it may be carried for the journey) will not be allowed on the campsite as it can be distracting and is a safety hazard.

You need to get

  • Comfortable shoes with sturdy soles (Must be worn; must not be new)
  • 1 pair of floaters
  • 1 head lamp (carry extra batteries)
  • Personal toiletries kit (include sun screen, cream & mosquito repellent)
  • Extra pair of spectacles in case you use them
  • Sleeping bags: Though Inme has enough sleeping bags to provide participants in case they do not carry their own, please note that these are used by other participants and Inme reissues them after a basic cleaning using a disinfectant spray.
  • Water bottle (ability to carry 2 liters of water)
  • Limit baggage to one piece of luggage
  • Participants do not require to carry any money for their travel, stay or meals from the point inme takes charge and till they are handed back to the parents. However they may carry a maximum of Rs 2500 for any personal purchases. Inme will not be responsible for any money lost or missing unless it is deposited in the camp safe on arrival.

Cancellation policy

There is a cancellation charge of Rs. 3000 up to 15 days before the departure date. Thereafter, a 75% refund of total fee up to 10 days to departure, 50% refund till 5 days to departure, and no refund if the departure is less than 5 days away.

Rules on trip

Mobile phones are not allowed. The program is designed to be in the wilderness and out of the regular comfort zone. Phones can be distracting and become a safety hazard. If carried, phones will be confiscated and have to be taken back from the office at the end of the season.

Additional instructions, booking policies, terms and conditions

These programs are not the same as a typical camping experience. There are no fixed tents or built up toilets. The great outdoors is all you have! Participants may not have bathing opportunities for 2-3 days at a stretch.

Participants need to ensure that they pack items as per the list provided. They have to carry their own bags along with the divided group resources for the entire trip.

Special precautions and safety guidelines help to make the camping experience of children unique and fun-filled. Before the start of each activity, a proper training session is organised for all the participants. Each participant gets the requisite gear needed for the completion of the exercise.

All group leaders and instructors have been certified from renowned institutes and carry years of experience. Creating a safe environment is their main aim and every instructor goes through rigorous training to be able to handle any challenging situation. Every safety procedure is diligently followed to allow a safe and fun experience for the children.
