Trek to Paithalmala

The Paithalmala trek is a short and easy trek that leads you up a hill-station that has remained largely unexplored, hidden away from the crowds of tourists. Great for beginners, this trek is a good choice if you're looking to escape from the urban life and spend a few days in the radiant greenery of Kerala. You'll also get to visit the coastal town of Kannur and visit the St. Angelo Fort and the Muzhappilangad drive-in beach. This 4-day trek to Paithalmala is truly a treat for all nature lovers, photographers and adventure lovers.

Destination

Paithalmala is located about 8-hr drive from Bengaluru, close to the state borders of Karnataka and Kerala, on the outskirts of the Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary. The Paithalmala trek will take you to the forests of this sanctuary, peppered with river streams and waterfalls. From atop the hill at Paithalmala, you'll stand at an observatory view point and gaze at the majestic view of the surrounding hills and forests. You'll also explore the coastal town of Kannur and visit local attractions like the longest drive-in beach in Asia at Muzhappilangad.

You'll meet your fellow travellers at one of the three pick-up points by 19:00 hrs. You will then start your overnight journey in a Tempo Traveller or mini-bus to Paithalmala in Kerala. Overnight in transit.

You will reach Paithalmala early in the morning and check-in to a home-stay. Freshen up and begin your day with breakfast. Today's trek will take you up on a forest trail with sprawling fields at frequent intervals. On the hilltop, you'll visit an observatory, spend some time enjoying the views and trek back to your home-stay by early evening. Spend the evening around a crackling bonfire with your fellow travellers. Overnight in a home-stay at Paithalmala.

You will arrive at Paithalmala by early morning, and breakfast will be served to you. You will then begin your trek. Packed lunch will be served to you on your trek. Dinner will be served to you when you return to the home-stay in Paithalmala.

You will wake up early in the morning and head out to Kannur after a quick breakfast. Spend the day exploring the gorgeous beaches and monuments in Kannur. You'll visit the Mridanga Saileswari temple, the St. Angelo Fort and the Muzhappilangad drive-in beach. In the evening, you will board the vehicle back to Bengaluru. Overnight in transit.

Today's meal package includes breakfast and lunch only. Post breakfast, you will head out for Kannur, and lunch will be served to at Kannur. You will board the vehicle back to Bengaluru in the late evening. No dinner will be served tonight, but you'll stop at a restaurant or eatery where you can have dinner at your own expense.

Cancellation policy

For cancellations made more than 7 days before departure of the Paithalmala trek: 95% refund.

For cancellations made 3-7 days before departure of the Paithalmala trek: 50% refund.

For cancellations made less than 3 days before departure of the Paithalmala trek: no refund.

In case of no show: no refund.

All refunds will be processed after deducting a transaction fee of INR 200 per person. This fee is charged by The Great Next.

Rules on trip

Smoking and consumption of alcohol is strictly prohibited on the Paithalmala trek.

Travellers are required to adhere to instructions of the trek leader during the trek to Paithalmala.

Travellers are requested to treat the local culture with respect and avoid littering, defacing property and monuments and causing general disturbance.

Additional instructions, booking policies, terms and conditions

Travellers can choose from 3 pick-up and drop-off points: St. Marks Cathedral in Ashok Nagar, New Shanti Sagar Hotel in Domlur, and Swad E Punjab in HSR Layout. Tardiness in arriving at the pick-up point will lead to missing the trek, without any refund.

The tour operator reserves the right to cancel or alter the itinerary of the Paithalmala trek to maximize the safety of travellers as well as staff.

Travellers will be required to bear any additional costs arising due to unforeseen circumstances such as bad weather, road blocks etc.
