The Markha Valley trek begins in Hemis National Park, which with its stark landscape and sparse shrubbery, is very unique. This is also home to the snow leopard, and is popular as a snow trek in winter. With very little tree cover, the days can get warm, but the temperature drops at night in this high altitude desert. You'll find yourself stopping to admire picturesque villages, pastures of grazing yak, sheep and goats at the lower altitudes.
