• Trip introduction

This trek to the summit of Mt. Kanamo takes you to an altitude of over 19,500 feet in the arid mountains of the Spiti Valley. The trail to reach the peak leads you on a steep climb which presents exciting challenges for the ardent trekker. From the top, you're rewarded for your effort with spellbinding views of the Kinnaur mountains, including the distant Parvati valley and the Parang-La pass. Undoubtedly, these views are the highlight of this 10-day expedition. This trip also takes you on a tour of the Spiti Valley with visits to ancient monasteries and isolated villages. From the popular, 1,000-year old Key Gompa to the little-known caves of Chicham, you'll get an intimate experience of Spiti's unique culture and tradition.

Mt. Kanamo, literally meaning 'the white lady', stands tall in the Spiti Valley with a staggering height of 19,586 feet. The route to reach the summit requires a high level of fitness as you'll be encountering a difficult trail. But the panoramic views of the Spiti Valley from the summit makes the trek a worthwhile effort. This is one of the few treks in Spiti to take you to such a high altitude without requiring any prior mountaineering or technical climbing experience.

On this trek, you'll be spending three days on Mt. Kanamo, with the remaining seven days spent in acclimatizing to the high altitude and exploring villages, home-stays and monasteries of Spiti Valley.
