Kalyan is an important railway station in the cetrain line of Mumbai suburban railway network. It is well connected by means of road and rail.
For new trekkers looking for a fun adventure in the monsoon, or for experienced trekkers looking for a practice trail, Gorakhgad is a great option. It has a relatively easy trail that winds upwards through pretty forests and rock-cut staircases. However, the fun really begins as you get closer to the top. The fort itself is not a large one, nor does it have any particular historical significance, but the pinnacles on the top make it a real experience. Rock-climbers love the trek to Gorakhgad fort, and trekkers always have a good time clambering on the lower rocks. During the monsoon, the trail can get very slippery, so it adds an element of excitement to an otherwise moderate trek.
This fort is named after the saint Gorakhnath who performed his penance here. Although small in size, it is covered with forests, caves cut into rock, plenty of space on top, and some ancient water cisterns, so it offers a scenic trek.
Please note that the start point of the trek to Gorakhgad fort is the remote village of Dehri, where only basic washroom facilities are available.
