    Salher is the highest fort in Maharashtra, and presents a good climb at 5141 feet. These forts were the backdrop to one of the largest and most terrible battles between Mughals and Marathas in 1671.

    The route is fairly challenging, with boulders, loose gravel and mud trails to navigate. The forts are filled with ancient carvings, historical structures and water cisterns.

    There are some sections with heavy green cover, in which case the route might be obscured.

    Destination

    The Western Ghats or Sahyadris are a World Heritage Site, famous for the ecological diversity here. With thousands of flora and fauna species exclusive to the region, any trek here involves plenty of interaction with nature.

    The itinerary allows you to stop at the top of Hargad fort to take some great photographs and admire the views.

    Rules on trip

    Smoking and drinking alcohol is strictly prohibited.

    Sleeveless or low neck tops, shorts, etc are not recommended as these will not protect you from the sun and from insects.

    • Camera, cell phone, binoculars (optional)
    • Electoral or Glucon D powder, some ready-to-eat food like plum cakes, biscuits etc.
    • Towel, napkins, extra pair of clothes
    • Polythene bag for your garbage
    • 2-3 bunch of papers (optional)
    • Personal basic medical kit (Containing an antiseptic, few bandages, personal medications if any, etc.)
    • A haversack to put in all the things to be carried so that one has hands free while trekking.
