Salher is the highest fort in Maharashtra, and presents a good climb at 5141 feet. These forts were the backdrop to one of the largest and most terrible battles between Mughals and Marathas in 1671.
The route is fairly challenging, with boulders, loose gravel and mud trails to navigate. The forts are filled with ancient carvings, historical structures and water cisterns.
There are some sections with heavy green cover, in which case the route might be obscured.
The Western Ghats or Sahyadris are a World Heritage Site, famous for the ecological diversity here. With thousands of flora and fauna species exclusive to the region, any trek here involves plenty of interaction with nature.
The itinerary allows you to stop at the top of Hargad fort to take some great photographs and admire the views.
Enjoy the completely different experience of a night hike as we return on the last day. | Get some great photographs of the views and surrounding peaks from the tops of the forts. | Stay in Mulher village for the night. | Visit a temple at the top of Salher fort.
