Two Days Trek to Bijli Mahadev

Bijli Mahadev standing high at 8000ft looms over the town of Kullu. Participants start the trek from Jana Village passing the ancient village of Naggar - once the capital of the Kullu Kingdom. The trail takes you through pine and cedar forests to the Matikochar ridge and finally ends with some fabulous sweeping views that Bijli Mahadev offers.

This is an easy trek and is perfect for newbies and trekkers looking for a short trek in the Himalayas.

IMPORTANT: This is not a fixed departure trip, so a minimum group size of 5 pax is required to make a booking. This will be a private trip, just for your group.

Nestled in the mountains of the Himalayas in the northern state of Uttarakhand, Bijli Mahadev looms over the town of Kullu from an elevation of 8000 feet. It is called the guardian of the valley as it's 60-foot tall staff, atop the temple bears the brunt of all thunderstorms. Surrounded by paddy fields and terraced orchards of apples, pears and pomegranate this trek is full of mesmerizing views.

Participants meet at the pick-up point in Manali and make their way to the start point of the trek through the town of Naggar, the erstwhile capital of Kullu kingdom. The trek begins from the picturesque Jana village with its paddy fields and terraced orchards of apples, pears and pomegranate. Gaining height gradually, participants reach the Matikochar ridge in the Kais wildlife sanctuary amidst forests of pine and deodar, and camp here for the night.

Today’s trek is on a flat surface through the forest. The forest slowly thins out and participants then enter grasslands, where the Bijli Mahadev temple is built. The hill-top offers commanding views of the Kullu valley and the confluence of the Parvati and Beas river. After spending some time admiring the majestic views, participants trek down to the village of Chansari, and then head to Manali.

  • Trekking Shoes (with a thick, hard sole)
  • Cotton socks -2 pairs
  • Pants (ideal are the quick dry light weight synthetic pants/track pants) - 2 pairs
  • T-shirts (preferably full sleeved cotton t-shirts. T-shirts with collars offer extra protection for the neck from sun burns) - 2 pairs
  • Synthetic fleece jacket
  • Wind proof/water proof jacket
  • Thermal liners - upper and lower (optional)
  • Down-filled/hollow fiber-filled insulated jacket - 1 pair (get this if you want to stay extra warm at camps)
  • Raincoat/poncho - make sure it is something that will cover your daypack and camera too.
  • Warm beanie - make sure it is something that covers your ears
  • Gloves - lightweight synthetic fleece/woolen gloves
  • Not to wear - Jeans/denims

You need to get

  • Backpack 40-50 lts with rain cover
  • Daypack 15-20 lts – you will use this to carry your camera, water bottle, trail layers, trail food etc.
  • Woolen socks (these are ideal to sleep in and best to use when in camp, but are not recommend while trekking) - 1 pair
  • Sunglasses with good UV protection
  • Sun cap
  • Toiletries - sunscreen SPF 40+, moisturizer, lip balm, soap, toilet paper
  • Repair kit (needle and thread)
  • Headlamp/torch
  • Camera
  • Water bottle (ideally keep two1 liter bottles)
  • Trekking pole – optional
  • Plastic packing covers (Please pack all your gear in waterproof plastic bags so that your clothes etc. do not get wet while on horses or porters. Also carry extra plastic bags in case you need to pack wet clothes.)

  • Crocin - 6 tablets (fever)
  • Avomine – 4 tablets (motion sickness)
  • Avil 25mg – 4 tablets (allergies)
  • Combiflam – 4 tablets (pain killer)
  • Disprin – 6 tablets (headache)
  • Norflox TZ and Lomofen – 6 tablets each (diarrhea)
  • Digene - 10 tablets (acidity)
  • Omez/Rantadine – 10 tablets (antacids)
  • Crepe bandage – 3 to 5 meters
  • Gauze - 1 small roll
  • Band aid – 10 strips
  • Cotton – 1 small roll
  • ORS – 10 packets
  • Betadine or any antiseptic cream
  • Moov spray (aches, and sprains)
  • Any other specific personal or prescribed medication.

Cancellation policy

Refund and cancellation:

If you cancel 45 days before the trip begins, 30% of the trip cost will be charged.

If you cancel 30 days before the trip begins, 50% of the trip cost will be charged.

If you cancel less than 30 days before the trip begins, or, are not present when the trip begins, no amount shall be refunded.

Rules on trip

The trip leader's decision is final.

Participants have to respect the local culture and should not litter or deface natural structures/monuments.

Additional instructions, booking policies, terms and conditions

In a case of an accident or illness - the participant will be escorted till the road head by a member of the staff and the participant will have to make arrangements for further transportation from there.

The operator will take every care to ensure that itineraries are followed to the letter but circumstances beyond control may necessitate changes. In the case of changes routes and properties, the operator will accept no liability, but will make arrangements for substitution of equal.

The operator will accept no liability for any damage, losses and expenses suffered by any client as a result of sickness, quarantine, weather conditions, war, strikes, riots or any other cause beyond their control.

Any damage, other than that attributable to fair wear and tear, to the equipment by the participants will be billed to the participant.

In the event of any dispute, all matters will be subject to the sole jurisdiction of the courts of Himachal and the prevailing law of India shall prevail.

While maximum efforts are made to ensure the safety of the participant, the operator, their management or employees will not be responsible for injuries of any nature, mental or physical, whether caused directly or indirectly due to any adventures or their allied activities.
