Moon Peak Trek

The trek to Moon Peak takes you up to a 15,100 feet tall summit on a short 6-day itinerary. The uphill trail takes you past the popular Triund Hill and onward into the mountains of the Dhauladhar range. You'll climb through dense forests and steep inclines, halting at vantage points that open up to beautiful vistas of the valley. A challenging trek in Himachal Pradesh, this trek to Moon Peak is best suited only for experienced trekkers.

Destination

The Moon Peak, at an altitude of almost 15,125 feet, is the most visible and towering landmark in the Dhauladhar mountain range. This trail leading to the summit offers a challenging trek with quite a steep gradient and curves. Littered with big boulders, the landscape changes drastically as you climb up from Triund's grassy meadows to the rocky Lahesh Caves. From the summit, you'll get exquisite views of the beautiful Kangra valley and snow-capped peaks of the Dhauladhar range.

Report to the Main Square in McLeod Ganj by 9:00 hrs and begin your trek to today's destination of Triund. It is a well-marked trail through the grassy ridges, offering your first glimpse of the Kangra valley and the Dhauladhar mountains. The trek serves as a good warm up trek before you embark on the steep inclines of the Moon peak. Overnight in tents at Triund.

You will begin your trek at 8:00 hrs from the Main Square. Today's meal package covers lunch and dinner. Packed lunch will be served to you on the way to the campsite, and dinner will be served to you at the campsite. For the night stay, you will be given sleeping bags and mattresses. You will sleep in tents.

Wake up to a gorgeous sunrise over the Dhauladhar range. Today, you will resume the trek and proceed to Ilaqa Got. Before you arrive, you'll visit the famous Snowline Cafe, located an hour away from Triund. Spend the rest of the day at leisure to acclimatize your body to the high altitude. Overnight in tents at Ilaqa Got.

Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast will be served to you before you set out for the trek. Packed lunch will be served on the way and dinner will be served at the Ilaqa Got campsite. Today, you will set out for the Lahesh Caves in the morning. Before you arrive, you'll trek over the snow and moraine of the Laka Glacier. The Lahesh Caves will act as the base camp for your summit climb to the Moon Peak the following day. Although, depending on the time and weather conditions, the summit climb may be undertaken today itself. Overnight in the Lahesh Caves.

Ilaqa Got

Today, you will start after an early breakfast and take the uphill route to reach the Moon peak. You'll navigate tricky sections on the trail, requiring you to climb over steep inclines and large boulders. From the top, you'll get awe-inspiring views of Dhauladhar mountains, the Indrahar Pass and the lower hills of Triund. After spending a little while on the peak, you'll climb back down to Ilaqa Got. Overnight in tents at Ilaqa Got.

Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. You will begin your trek to the Moon Peak post-breakfast. Packed lunch will be served to you on the way to the peak and dinner will be served to you at Ilaqa Got. Throughout the trek, you'll be accompanied by an experienced trek leader and a support staff of cooks, helpers and porters.

Lahesh Caves

Today, you will trek downhill on a short and easy trail to McLeod Ganj, arriving in the town by late afternoon. Your trek ends here.

You trip ends by early morning.

Today's meal package includes only breakfast. You will be served breakfast before you set out on your descend to McLeod Ganj. Your trek ends at McLeod Ganj before afternoon.

Cancellation policy

For cancellations made more than 30 days prior to departure of the Moon Peak trek: 90% refund.

For cancellations made 21-30 days prior to departure of the Moon Peak trek: 60% refund.

For cancellations made 11-20 days prior to departure of the Moon Peak trek: 30% refund.

For cancellations made less than 10 days prior to departure of the Moon Peak trek: no refund.

In case of no show: no refund.

All refunds will be processed after deducting a transaction fee of INR 200 per person. This fee is charged by The Great Next.

Rules on trip

Travellers are required to follow all instructions of the trek leader during the Moon Peak trek.

Travellers are requested to treat the local culture with respect and avoid littering, defacing property and monuments and causing general disturbance.

Travellers requested to stick together and walk with the group and not wander off from the group on their own.

Consumption of alcohol, drugs and tobacco products like cigarettes is strictly prohibited during the Moon Peak trek.

Additional instructions, booking policies, terms and conditions

The tour operator reserves the right to alter or cancel the itinerary of the Moon Peak trek to maximize the safety of the travellers and staff. Any costs arising due to such a change in the itinerary are borne by the traveller.

The tour operator takes utmost care to ensure safety of the travellers and shall not be held responsible for any mishap or accident during the Moon Peak trek.

You'll be required to sign a medical and disclaimer certificate before beginning the trek.

For rescheduling your departure date after booking the trek, a fee of 30% of the total trip cost will be applicable. You'll not be allowed to reschedule the trek if your departure date is less than 10 days away.
