This Manikgad trek takes you to the rain soaked hills of Maharashtra whilst offering any adventure loving city dweller the perfect combination of thrill, beauty and history. Conducted over a single day this adventure takes you through gorgeous moss covered landscapes and vast patches of green vegetation as you traverse through the mountainous interiors of Raigad. With a layer of forests, this trek follows a scenic route which only gets prettier as you approach the fort. ‘Manik’ which means ‘precious beads,’ is an 18th century hill-fort constructed by the Maratha Navy to oversee and protect the trade route. Despite having an interesting history – what makes this journey so enriching is also the beauty this fort exudes. Although in ruins, it shows you the perfect blend of nature and history. Moreover, once you reach the top, you’ll also get to catch sight of breathtaking views of neighboring forts, mountain ranges and more.

Standing at a height of 1663 feet, the Manikgad Fort is a mountain fortress and temple that is situated in the mountains of Maharashtra, near Vashivali, 27 kms from Panvel. As it surrounded by rolling hills and thick patches of greenery – from atop the fort beautiful views of popular neighboring forts can be seen, such as Karnala, Prabalgad, Chanderi, Sondai and Lohagad amongst many others.
Apart from emitting an interesting history this fort is known for its intrinsic interiors. From having the ‘Maha Darwaji’ with inscriptions of Lord Ganesha on it, this fort also holds a small temple and a ‘Chunyacha Ghana’.

Mumbai travellers board the 06:00 hrs train from CST and reach Panvel by 07:18 hrs. Thane travellers board the 06:19 hrs train and reach Panvel by 07:10 hrs. By 07:30 hrs meet the team and move towards the base village. Once you reach, feast on some breakfast and refreshments while undergoing a briefing session. You will then begin your trek towards Manikgad. During your journey, you'll pass through beautiful ladnscapes and hilly terrains. Reach the fort and rejoice your accomplishment. Feast on your packed lunch atop the fort whilst catching surrounding views. Post lunch, begin your descent back down to the base village and reach back by 17:15 hrs. After sipping on evening tea with snacks you'll be dropped back to Panvel Station. Catch the train and reach back home by 20:00 hrs. Your trip ends here.
