Dehdradun is easily accessible by road, rail and air from Delhi and other major cities in India.
The Nanda Devi Express [12205], departing from Delhi at night, is one of the recommended options to get to Dehradun.
This 8-day trek is perfect for adventure seekers. The trek begins in Gangotri, from where you trek to Gaumukh and then to Tapovan. This dramatic trek takes you through dense Himalayan forests, by the roaring Bhagirathi River, across the tree line into a dreamlike landscape of the Tapovan summit. You get to take a dip at the origin of the Bhagirathi River at Gaumukh Glacier, spend a day on the surreal meadows of Tapovan and explore its flora and fauna, all the while in the company of some of the most beautiful views of the imposing Himalayan peak.
The two main destinations of this trek are Gaumukh and Tapovan. Gaumukh is a glacier located at an altitude of 12,795 feet. It is the source of the holy river of Bhagirathi which is one of the two headstreams of the Ganges River. It is held in high esteem by Hindu devotees. Tapovan, on the other hand, is an alpine meadow summit, located at an elevation of 14,222 feet. It also acts as a base camp for the Shivling Peak.
You will also see some of the most iconic views on this trek, like the Bhagirathi Peaks I, II, and III, and the famous peaks of Shivling, Meru and Sumeru which are some of the hardest climbing routes in the world.
