Trek to Valley of Flowers (ex-Joshimath with Auli stay)

There are many reasons to go to the Valley of Flowers: the gorgeous, multi-coloured carpet of flowers that covers the slopes around; the mist swirling around the tops of peaks; the waterfalls that dot the landscape; but the most important reason is that you have a small window of time when the Valley of Flowers is open to trekkers, and that's why you should book your trip now.

This Valley of Flowers trek is suitable for first-time trekkers, families with kids, or groups looking for a fun outing in the mountains. Your Valley of Flowers trek itinerary also takes you to Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara, a famous Sikh pilgrimage spot on the banks of the Hemkund lake, where devotees take a dip in the ice-covered water.

This Valley of Flowers trek itinerary includes a stay on the last day in Auli, in a charming mountain lodge.

IMPORTANT: This trek also takes you to Badrinath. However, the visit to Badrinath is subject to good weather conditions. A final call will be taken by the trek leader on the day of the visit.

Destination

The Valley of Flowers is a National Park located between the Zanskar and Great Himalaya ranges. It is home to the Asiatic black bear, the reclusive snow leopard, and the red fox, amongst other endangered species. As you walk, you'll smell the roses blooming, and pick wild strawberries or taking photographs of rare orchids and primula flowers.

On your last night on the Valley of Flowers trek, you'll be staying at a lodge in Auli. This is a brand new lodge is perched on a cliff overlooking Nanda Devi Peak, Dronagiri, Kamet, and Mana Peak. You'll be staying in twin-sharing rooms with attached washrooms with geysers, heater, a private sit-out to admire the views, and free Wi-Fi.

Eat a delicious breakfast and jump aboard vehicles that will drive you to Govindghat. This is the start point of your Valley of Flowers trek. From here, you'll be walking through apricot trees and into the greenery. The trek is about 12 kms to get to Ghangaria, but it's not too hard and will warm you up for the rest of your trekking days. You'll check into a hotel in Ghangaria. Overnight in hotel.

Day 2 Milestone

Today you set off into the Valley of Flowers. It's a short trek today (only 3 hours one way) and will give you plenty of time to explore the valley and admire the views. You'll cross a small sparkling stream and cross over into a wonderland of gorgeous flowers. Around you, waterfalls gush out over the tops of mountains, and you can see the mist rolling in. You'll spend the day here, and return to your hotel in Ghangaria later. Overnight in hotel.

Today's trail is a little harder, and you'll climb upwards to the famous Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara. There are seven mountains surrounding the lake, and usually a layer of broken ice still floating on the water. You'll spend some time here and then return to Ghangaria, stopping en route to take in the views. Overnight in hotel.

Today you begin with a trek back to Govindghat. You won't feel like saying goodbye to the Valley of Flowers, with all it's natural beauty and flower-scented air. Upon your return to Joshimath, if time permitting you will be able to sightsee Joshimath after which you will be driven to scnenic Auli.

You'll spend the night at Mountain Rover or similar mountain lodge in Auli. You'll be staying in deluxe rooms with attached washrooms on a twin-sharing basis. Each room has king-sized beds, geyser, a heater, and a private sit-out. Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch, evening snacks, and dinner. All meals will be vegetarian. When available, eggs will be served as well.

For cancellations made 0-10 days before departure of the Valley of Flowers trek: No refund.

For cancellations made 11-15 days before departure of the Valley of Flowers trek: 50% refund.

For cancellations made 15 days or more before departure of the Valley of Flowers trek: 85% refund.

No show: No refund.

If the Valley of Flowers trek itinerary has to be aborted/rescheduled for extreme weather/safety of the trekkers and crew, there will be no refunds.

All refunds will be processed after deducting any transaction charges.

Rules on trip

Travellers are required to adhere to the instructions of the trek leader during the trek to Valley of Flowers.

Consumption of alcohol, drugs, tobacco products and cigarettes is strictly prohibited during the trek.

Travellers are requested to treat the local culture with respect and avoid littering, defacing property and monuments and causing general disturbance.

Additional instructions, booking policies, terms and conditions

The tour operator takes utmost care to ensure safety of the travellers and shall not be held responsible for any mishap or accident during the trek to Valley of Flowers.

Travellers will be required bear any additional costs arising due to unforeseen circumstances such as bad weather, road blocks etc.

Travellers will be required to sign an indemnity form before departure of the trek to Valley of Flowers.
