Day Trek to Visapur Fort

Embark on a relatively easy 4-hr trek to Visapur Fort and explore the historic ruins of a battle-torn fort. With unmatched views of steep hills and an intriguing back-story fraught with war, the Visapur Fort makes a great weekend trek for adventure enthusiasts and history buffs. As you make your way to the top of the fort, you'll climb over boulders, skip over river streams and navigate your way through overgrown forests. At Visapur, you'll explore the ancient caves, water cisterns, houses, walls, entrances and archs that still stand tall after decades of history.

The trek to Visapur Fort is a popular monsoon trek among people from Mumbai and Pune looking for a quick weekend getaway in the midst of nature.

Located close to Lonavala, near the Pawna Lake, the fort of Visapur dates back to the 14th century. The fort is built at an elevation of 3,556 feet atop steeply inclined mountains of the Western Ghats, accessible by rocky stairs all the way to the top. Views from the atop the fort are mesmerizing with the months of monsoon turning the countryside landscape full of greenery. You can also catch views of the Lohagad, the smaller, sister fort of Visapur.
